Internet Publishing Manifesto

by Robbie, February 6, 2006

Below is a recap of the 11 principles I’ve written about so far which set the foundation for what I believe is the next generation of technical publishing.

  1. Content not limited by the pages of a book
  2. Content when and how you want it
  3. Text, audio, video–integrated
  4. Apply advances in software development to content development
  5. Continual development
  6. Release incrementally
  7. Update regularly; improve based on feedback
  8. Leverage the community
  9. Usability on par with books
  10. Learning by doing
  11. Improve the author experience

Am I on target or off base with any of these? Let me know what you think.

One response:

  1. Even when publishers outsource, knowing who the best editors, layout, and other vendors are, mananging them well. and having the long term-relationship and volume to negotiate the best price gives publishers a continuing competitive advantage in these areas.
